The final word...

History is accelerating and the future is becoming ever shorter. The advances of technology have recently allowed me to scan the pictures from family albums and make a hard cover glossy book, from the comforts of my home. Reflecting on the contents, I am simply amazed at how society has changed.

Thirty years ago, there were only two cars in our street, one telephone which our neighbour allowed us to make and receive calls on. We eventually got a black and white TV and thought the advent of colour was a revolution. There were no mobile phones, no email, no computers at all. Everyone that wanted to do something had to interact with a real person, use real money, have real conversations and write real letters.

As individuals in society, we’re a little bit like the boiling frog analogy, if we had jumped in when the water was hot, we would realise the danger, yet because we’ve been in the water since it was cold, we’ve not felt the temperature rise. Society with all the changes that have taken place, is now like a speeding train with a multitude of drivers all arguing with each other about what to do next – no one seems to be giving clear directions, and no one is the least bit interested in where the train is going.

I was at a conference recently listening to all the various laws which have been implemented since World war II, laws to lower the age consent, laws to acknowledge and promote homosexuality, laws to impinge

freedom of speech, laws making Britain a surveillance society in the name of security, laws to allow research into Human and Animal cross breeding the list goes on and on.

How long will it be before the cross is removed from Grave yards, or from the front of churches, because it’s deemed by minorities to be no longer socially acceptable ?

How long will it be before every conversation, email, letter or fax is scrutinised to see if the sender is a potential threat to the harmony we are all supposed to now be enjoying ? If ever there was a time to cry out to God and pleed with Him to intervene in the direction of our Nation is must be now.

Man thinks intellect is the answer for everything, but when society stumbles, and people become restless, perhaps then everyone will remember to take a minute and acknowledge their creator.

Let’s pray that the British Isles and Ireland will return to the Lord and that our legal system would acknowledge the centrality of faith in society.
